Summary:Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is a common and widely used food additive which has been passed as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) by the American Food and Drug Administration. However, it may have a significant adverse effect on certain individuals; the physician must be able to recognize the symptoms of MSG sensitivity, otherwise known as "Chinese Restaurant Syndrome". This article reviews current findings on MSG.
