Summary: | The authors concluded that the TIMI risk score is a useful tool as an adjunct to assessment of chest pain patients, and facilitates communication between the emergency department and admitting teams, but warned that it should not be used in isolation as almost 2% of patients with a score of zero had an adverse event. When can someone with a minor head injury be safely discharged, and who should have a CT scan? A Swedish randomised controlled trial ( BMJ 2006 ; 333 : 465 -8 ) studied patients aged over 6 years presenting with a minor head injury (loss of consciousness and/or amnesia, GCS 15) comparing those with immediate CT and early discharge against those admitted for observation without CT. |
