Nucleotide sequence of a full length cDNA clone encoding for β-tubulin of the sea urchin Paracentrotus lividus

The authors have isolated from a lambda gt 10 cDNA library of P. lividus hatching blastula embryos several clones encoding for beta -tubulin. The DNA sequence of one such clone ( beta 2) containing a 1826 bp insert has been determined. The inferred polypeptide sequence shows that beta contains the c...

Description
Summary:The authors have isolated from a lambda gt 10 cDNA library of P. lividus hatching blastula embryos several clones encoding for beta -tubulin. The DNA sequence of one such clone ( beta 2) containing a 1826 bp insert has been determined. The inferred polypeptide sequence shows that beta contains the coding information for 447 amino acids. Comparison with a human beta -tubulin polypeptide reveals amino acids identity greater than 96%. The amino acid substitutions and the insertions/deletions in the sea urchin beta 2-tubulin, most of which are clustered in the highly acidic C-terminal region of the protein, are indicated with one and three asterisks respectively.
