The nucleotide sequence of a flavodoxin-like gene which precedes two ferredoxin genes in Rhodobacter capsulatus
The fdxN gene coding for the 2(4Fe-4S) ferredoxin I of Rhodobacter capsulatus was cloned, sequenced and found to be located in a nif region on the chromosome. Just in front of fdxN, a gene encoding a (2Fe-2S) ferredoxin has been identified and its product characterized. Further upstream, a 600 bp re...

Summary: | The fdxN gene coding for the 2(4Fe-4S) ferredoxin I of Rhodobacter capsulatus was cloned, sequenced and found to be located in a nif region on the chromosome. Just in front of fdxN, a gene encoding a (2Fe-2S) ferredoxin has been identified and its product characterized. Further upstream, a 600 bp region has been sequenced. An ORF of 480 bp was identified beginning with a CTG, ending only 18 bp before the start codon of the (2Fe-2S) ferredoxin gene. This ORF has two possible CTG start codons, the second being more probable since it is located within the correct distance from a putative ribosome binding site. The deduced polypeptide contains 159 or 160 amino acids and has a predicted molecular weight of 17,100-17,200. |
