Summary:Pd(II)-catalyzed C(sp 3 )–H arylation of saturated heterocycles with a wide range of aryl iodides has been achieved using a N -heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand, thus demonstrating the compatibility of carbene ligands in a Pd(II)/Pd(IV) catalytic manifold. This arylation method provides a new approach towards further diversifying pharmaceutically relevant piperidine and tetrahydropyran ring systems.
