Arginine dimethylation products in pediatric patients with chronic kidney disease
Abstract Background arginine and its metabolites have been linked to pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD). We aimed to estimate serum levels of argninine (Arg), asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA) and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) in pediatric CKD patients and its relation to altered kidney fun...

Serum Arg levels showed positive significant correlation, while serum ADMA and SDMA levels showed negative significant correlation with eGFR. Moreover, Arg/ADMA ratio showed negative significant correlation, while ADMA/SDMA ratio showed positive significant correlation with eGFR of patients. Regression analysis defined high serum SDMA level as persistently significant predictor for low eGFR. Conclusion Disturbed serum levels of arginine and its dimethyl derivatives may underlie development and/or progression of CKD. Elevated serum SDMA level is strongly correlated with impaired kidney functions and could be considered as a predictor for kidney functions deterioration and CKD progression.</description><identifier>ISSN: 2049-0801</identifier><identifier>EISSN: 2049-0801</identifier><identifier>DOI: 10.1016/j.amsu.2016.05.017</identifier><identifier>PMID: 27358729</identifier><language>eng</language><publisher>England: Elsevier Ltd</publisher><subject>Chronic kidney disease ; Internal Medicine ; Kidney functions ; Original Research ; Serum arginine ; Serum dimethyl arginine derivatives ; Surgery</subject><ispartof>Annals of medicine and surgery, 2016-08, Vol.9, p.22-27</ispartof><rights>The Authors</rights><rights>2016 The Authors</rights><rights>2016 The Authors 2016</rights><lds50>peer_reviewed</lds50><oa>free_for_read</oa><woscitedreferencessubscribed>false</woscitedreferencessubscribed><citedby>FETCH-LOGICAL-c510t-a6cd081c437146f27a6b5cb7fc519b12e41118786d3245bd46458247094ff6693</citedby></display><links><openurl>$$Topenurl_article</openurl><openurlfulltext>$$Topenurlfull_article</openurlfulltext><thumbnail>$$Tsyndetics_thumb_exl</thumbnail><linktopdf>$$Uhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4915955/pdf/$$EPDF$$P50$$Gpubmedcentral$$Hfree_for_read</linktopdf><linktohtml>$$Uhttps://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2049080116300619$$EHTML$$P50$$Gelsevier$$Hfree_for_read</linktohtml><link.rule.ids>230,314,727,780,784,885,3549,27924,27925,45780,53791,53793</link.rule.ids><backlink>$$Uhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27358729$$D View this record in MEDLINE/PubMed$$Hfree_for_read</backlink></links><search><creatorcontrib>El-Sadek, Akram E</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Behery, Eman G</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Azab, Ahmed A</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Kamal, Naglaa M</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Salama, Mostafa A</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Abdulghany, Waleed E</creatorcontrib><creatorcontrib>Abdallah, Enas A.A</creatorcontrib><title>Arginine dimethylation products in pediatric patients with chronic kidney disease</title><title>Annals of medicine and surgery</title><addtitle>Ann Med Surg (Lond)</addtitle><description>Abstract Background arginine and its metabolites have been linked to pediatric chronic kidney disease (CKD).
