Summary: | The Neighbourhood Team Development (NTD) model was created to enhance resident-centeredness in nursing homes; Staff work in a framework of accountability and enhance resident-centredness by using techniques to preserve resident’s autonomy and dignity, and emphasize quality of life. This multifaceted study examined: the fidelity of the NTD model, process and contextual factors associated with implementation and outcomes, and effects of the NTD model on care experiences of residents, staff, family and organization. A repeated measure, mixed method design is underway with 72 Neighborhoods in 11 long-term-care Villages. This presentation discusses the NTD model and initial findings on quality of life measures, satisfaction surveys, interviews, staff engagement, observations, and organizational data. Encouraging staff to work to their full scope of practice while providing better coordinated care is key to resident-centred care, as is seamless team functioning in which all team players work to their fullest capacity and residents come first. |
