Description
Summary:Few treatment guidelines exist for multi-morbid patients. Individualized absolute risk calculators for competing patient-centred outcomes are a way to help with treatment decisions that account for patient preferences. The absolute risk of an outcome is the probability that a person receiving a given treatment will experience that outcome within a pre-defined time interval, during which they are simultaneously at risk for other competing outcomes. We developed an individualized absolute risk calculator for competing outcomes using doubly robust propensity scoring that strengthen causal inference for specific treatments. Heterogeneous treatment effects among multi-morbid patients largely depends on coexisting conditions and patient characteristics which are explanatory factors used in estimating the treatment effects. This innovative method has wide-spread application for determining individualized absolute risk calculations by presenting the probabilities of outcomes in absolute terms to help the increasing population of patients with multi-morbidity facing complex treatment decisions.
