Summary:This is a protocol for a Cochrane Review (Intervention). The objectives are as follows: The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate the evidence regarding the treatment of HZO in people with HIV infection. Specific objectives To determine the efficacy of different antiviral agents in the treatment of acute HZO with regard to resolution of skin lesions, reduction of viral shedding, and incidence of ocular complications. To assess the efficacy of different treatment options (e.g. oral steroids, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, topical analgesics, and nerve blocks) in the management of post‐herpetic neuralgia.
