Summary: | Kania-Richmond et al talk about Alberta's Bone and Joint Health Strategic Clinical Network (BJH SCN). BJH SCN was established in 2012 to support musculoskeletal health of the province's population. It evolved from a provincial working group established in Alberta in the early 2000s that was tasked to respond to the wait-time crisis for hip and knee arthroplasty. The BJH SCN operates across the care continuum-from prevention to self-management to inhospital care and postdischarge care-and across the lifespan, with a focus on innovative service delivery. The mandate of the BJH SCN continues to be transformation of Alberta's health care system to ensure that Albertans have access to the right services and providers at the right time, as well as being able to participate in the processes leading the transformation. The strategic areas of work for the BJH SCN were originally in the acute care setting, with a more recent shift "upstream" to address conservative care and prevention strategies across the lifespan as they relate to musculoskeletal health. |
