Ultra-small GeSn quantum dots with visible photoluminescence

Ge 1− x Sn x alloy quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized with sizes ranging from 1-3 nm exhibiting visible orange-red photoluminescence. Composition dependent optical properties were characterized and supported by theoretical calculations. Structural analysis suggests the QDs are diamond cubic phase,...

Description
Summary:Ge 1− x Sn x alloy quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized with sizes ranging from 1-3 nm exhibiting visible orange-red photoluminescence. Composition dependent optical properties were characterized and supported by theoretical calculations. Structural analysis suggests the QDs are diamond cubic phase, characteristic of Ge 1− x Sn x thin films and nanocrystals (NCs) reported to date. Plot of theoretical energy gaps of Ge 1− x Sn x quantum dots. Background images are a TEM image of Ge 1− x Sn x quantum dots and a picture of a cuvette containing luminescent Ge 1− x Sn x QDs irradiated by a UV light.
