5-Hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (HMF) was hydrogenated to 2,5-bis(hydroxymethyl)furan (BHMF) (>99% yield) in various n -alcohol solvents using a Ru(OH) x /ZrO 2 catalyst.
