Summary:Visible light irradiation of the readily available sandwich complex [(C 5 H 5 )Fe(C 6 H 6 )]BF 4 with multidentate salicylate dyes such as Aluminon, Alumocresone, Chrome Azurol S, or Eriochrome Cyanine R produced intesively colored iron( iii ) complexes. Similar reaction can proceed on paper, cotton, or polyacrylamide hydrogel to give colored pH-sensitive patterns. The photochemical reaction of organometallic iron complex [(C 5 H 5 )Fe(C 6 H 6 )] + with salicylate dyes in water produces bright colored patterns.
