Description
Summary:This study examined the experiences of Nurse Educators in Community Based Education (CBE) during student accompaniment in a public College in the Eastern Cape Province. A qualitative, explorative and descriptive design was used with the population drawn from Nurse Educators from a public nursing college within the Eastern Cape Province using purposive sampling method. Data were collected till saturation was reached and was then analyzed using Tesch’s eight steps of data analysis. Various positive factors that were used by Nurse Educators to enhance CBE include participation by community stakeholders, positive responses from students in CBE and enhancing CBE through prior learning. Challenging factors were identified by the Nurse Educators as the difficulty in planning, implementation and evaluation of CBE for college students to ensure quality education and training. It emerged from the study that Nurse Educators (NE) encountered various challenges including shortage of facilitators and resources, transport challenges and lack of community involvement compromised the safety of Nurse Educators and learners. Strategies that can enhance CBE were implemented by NE.
