Summary: | Safety and comfort of temperature and breathing gas for human life support in living compartments of manned submersibles is discussed in this paper. The main goal of the paper is to improve the effectiveness of the crew by providing greater habitability.
Air distribution parameters were researched such as air flow rate, air velocity and temperature, air inlet and outlet location, living compartment accommodations, and crew metabolism. It was found that heat flow rates are a function of air distribution conditions and heat isolation parameters. 3-D distribution models of air velocity, air temperature, and partial pressures of carbon dioxide in living compartments are presented in the paper.
The paper also deals with the problem of how to address the human response to heat when designing life support systems for manned submersibles, which provide different thermal conditions required or desired in different living compartments served by one conditioning or life support system. Furthermore, it deals with the search for more advanced methods of calculating and specifying environmental conditions in living compartments and the development of new methods for investigating the efficiency of life support systems. |
