Summary:An exhaust emissions analyzer, developed for use in the automotive dealership service environment, presents an accurate determination of the carbon monoxide concentration in the exhaust of any engine at a steady-state test condition. It also presents an indication of the unburned hydrocarbon concentration relative to “normal” for any reciprocating spark ignition emission controlled engine at a steady-state curb idle test condition. Its utility as a field service tool is thus twofold: used as a diagnostic device it enables a technician to decide if an engine has a carburetion problem or a malfunction in the combustion process, and used as an adjustment device it aids in setting the proper carburetor idle mixture adjustment on emission controlled automotive engines.
