description The development of personal and social skills is a facilitator or even essential for nurses to demonstrate relational skills and helping skills in their daily activity. This study, quasi-experimental in nature, aimed to assess the validity of the program of development of social skills called Care to Know Care and its implications for the development of relational skills of helping and interpersonal communication in nursing students at six month follow-up after the program. A random sample totalled 104 students from the 2nd year, 3rd semester of the Nursing Degree Course, constituting a control group (42 students) and an experimental group (62 students). Data collection was done using: a Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, Rathus Assertiveness Scale, Clinical Self-concept Inventory, Relational and Help Skills Inventory and Interpersonal Communication Assessment Scale. The results show an impact of the program on self-concept, assertiveness, alexithymia, relational and helping skills and interpersonal communication. It was concluded that the program has validity, consistency and usefulness in the development and learning of personal, social and professional competencies of nursing students, with positive implications for the development of relational helping skills and interpersonal communication.
