Description
Summary:The family Dolichopodidae (Diptera) from Mexican Chiapas amber are reviewed. Six new species are described:Mesorhaga pseudolacrymans,Amblypsilopus monicae,Medetera totolapa,Medetera amissa,Peloropeodes paleomexicanaandNeoparentia chiapensis. All genera are currently extant in the modern Mesoamerican fauna, and three of the new species can be closely associated with modern species groups or species. This suggests that many elements of the modern Neotropical dolichopodid fauna have been in place since the Miocene.
