Summary:This article aims to analyze Otopame sociolinguistic diversity in Veracruz, mainly the use of Otomi in the municipality of Ixhuatlan de Madero, Veracruz. For the analysis of sociolinguistic diversity, it is important to consider the vital state in which these languages are found or their disappearance. The economic power, social status, population density of speakers, and symbolic value assigned to the languages is therefore of vital importance in diagnosing the sociolinguistic situation of the Otomi in Veracruz, through detailed and complete information. Esta coexistencia del uso de varias lenguas produce fenómenos sociolingüísticos dignos de ser estudiados, como el registro etnográfico del code-switching, la elección lingüística, la percepción de la diversidad del uso de las lenguas, los efectos del comportamiento lingüístico de los hablantes y de las instituciones, las acti- tudes lingüísticas, las representaciones ideológicas de las lenguas, el carácter ideológico de éstas, el valor simbólico que se les asigna, el multilingüismo social, las competencias multilingües entre los hablantes, etcétera.
