Description
Summary:A framework for predicting the dynamic densification response of initially porous granular materials over a range of initial densities is presented. Key features of compaction as reported in the literature are used to define the scope and bounds of the present framework, which includes restriction of the framework to granular materials with fractional densities less than 0.57. The framework is developed within the construct of a P-α compaction model that has a single free parameter, PC , and is applied to available data for CeO2 at initial fractional densities of 0.28, 0.33, and 0.56. Predictions for the densification response of CeO2 at alternate initial fractional densities come from assuming a functional relationship for PC = f (ρ00), where both linear and exponential forms are discussed.
