Description
Summary:A 30 keV lithium beam probe system to measure edge density and its fluctuation has been developed on the large helical device (LHD) and has just started its operation. On a test setup relevant to LHD conditions, the equivalent beam current ∼0.1 mA was obtained without the unfavorable beam divergence, in spite of a long distance more than 6 m from the injector. In the preliminary experiments in LHD, it was found that the beam penetrates up to ρ∼0.8 (ρ:normalized minor radius). By using the electrostatic deflection plates coupled with an in situ beam position monitor, the probe system operation is available, without the magnetic field shield, under the flexible experimental conditions with various magnetic field configurations.
