Negative Characteristic and Instability of the Collision‐Dominated Helium Plasma Column

The general concept of thermal column instability is applied to the calculation of Kaufmann's criterion. At the same time a rigorous numerical evaluation of the marginal instability making use of the Myklestad procedure is obtained.
