Description
Summary:The transport behavior of homologous series of aromatic solvents through coconut shell powder reinforced thermoplastic polyurethane/natural rubber blend-composites have been investigated in the temperature range 30-70 °C. The diffusion and transport properties of solvents through the composites have been studied in detail, as a function of filler concentration, filler modification, penetrant size and temperature variation. Mol % uptake and transport coefficients such as diffusion coefficient, sorption coefficient and permeation coefficient were estimated and were found to be decreasing with increase in filler loading. The solvent transport is hindered at high concentrations of coconut shell powder. This observation could be correlated with the morphology of the composites. The mechanism of transport is found to be deviated from normal Fickian trend. Activation energy for diffusion is calculated from Arrhenius plots.
