Experimental investigation of engine performance of Neem-Karanja mixed biodiesel blend in a CI engine

Application of biodiesel in diesel engine gaining world wide popularity due to rapid depletion of diesel fuels. In this work, Neem and Karanja biodiesel are produced through transesterification process and mixed together (KNB). The fuel blend KNB20 consist of 80% Karanja biodiesel and 20% Neem biodi...

description Application of biodiesel in diesel engine gaining world wide popularity due to rapid depletion of diesel fuels. In this work, Neem and Karanja biodiesel are produced through transesterification process and mixed together (KNB). The fuel blend KNB20 consist of 80% Karanja biodiesel and 20% Neem biodiesel. The different physicochemical properties of KNB20 have been evaluated. Experiments are carried out to evaluate the BTE, BSFC, and exhaust emission characteristics of a mixed Neem and Karanja blend in a single-cylinder diesel engine at different engine load condition. BTE of KNB20 results slightly higher than neat diesel. BSEC of KNB20 is similar to neat diesel. The mixed biodiesel blend produces lower HC, CO and NOx, than neat diesel. Therefore, it may be concluded that mixed biodiesel KNB20 would be used as an alternative fuel for diesel fuel in unmodified diesel engine
