Description
Summary:Contact angle is one of the important physical properties of membrane as it reveals the hydrophilicity of the membrane and its fouling tendency. Efforts have been done to predict the contact angle via interfacial tension approach and thermodynamic modelling. However, detailed sample (solid) and liquid properties are required, which may not be available especially for newly developed materials. Studies showed that the basic membrane properties, such as the pure water permeation (PWP), porosity and pore size of a membrane affect its contact angle. However, no prior work has been done to estimate the contact angle via this approach. Thus, it is desired to rank the effect of PWP, pore size and porosity on the contact angle of a membrane and the outcome would be able to facilitate the researchers to develop a model to estimate the contact angle of membrane. Approximately 90 present of data were collected from the reviews of literature and was analysed by using ANOVA and Taguchi approaches. Results introduced both analysis rank the porosity and pore size as the more significant factors, compared to PWP in affecting the contact angle of a membrane.
