Summary:The female physicists at the Department of Physics conducted several outreach activities in 2016. The aim was to encourage female secondary school students to study physics or science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects at the university level. The Department of Physics, together with the Department of Mathematics, at the University of Dar es Salaam conducted the first science camp for A-level female science students with their physics and mathematics teachers from five schools in Dar es Salaam. Other activities included visiting schools, giving talks, and inviting students to attend research weeks at the University of Dar es Salaam. The Department of Physics, in collaboration with the Institute of Physics (IOP), has also conducted a workshop on entrepreneurship for scientists and engineers in Tanzania, in which there was an equal number of female and male participants.
