Ballistic limit determination of an aircraft with high-speed impact on a thin metal barrier

Summary: | Impact-penetrating action on thin (less than half the diameter of the striker) metal barriers (screens) of both non-deformable (weakly deformable) strikers and deformable strikers (aircraft, guided missiles) is considered. To calculate the ballistic limit and the limited thickness of the barrier, we used an analytical model based on the quasi-dynamic approach, taking into consideration the strength and inertial resistance of the barrier (screen). The obtained analytical dependences were verified in the range of impact velocities from 79.3 to 315 m/s. A technique is proposed for preliminary calculation of shock-penetrating action on thin metal barriers during high-speed impact of non-deformable (low deformable) and deformable impactors. |
