Energetic particle modified Mercier criterion

Summary: | The Mercier criterion is obtained from the ballooning mode equation resulting from the generalized kinetic energy principle. Drift nonreversal of the energetic particles is assumed in order to obtain a sufficient stability criterion. The criterion is valid for three‐dimensional configurations. Contributions of the energetic component are recovered and in several interesting cases our result gives stabilizing effects additional to the rigid model result. |
