Electrostatic instabilities near the lower‐hybrid frequency excited by a large‐amplitude pump

Description
Summary:Instabilities of a magnetized plasma subjected to a large‐amplitude dipole field oscillating at a frequency near the lower‐hybrid frequency are investigated by numerically solving the linear dispersion relation. Besides the usual parametric instabilities, additional modes are driven unstable at higher harmonics of the pump frequency. The relevance of these modes to plasma heating is discussed.
