Description
Summary:A lot of investigations intended towards getting better heat transfer rate by intensification of heat transfer in heat exchangers are, either by increasing the surface area or by improving the convective heat transfer coefficient. The use of combined augmentation techniques yields an improvement of heat transfer in heat exchangers. In this study a comparison of heat transfers of Al2O3/water nanofluid in a horizontal coil in shell heat exchanger with (FCHE) and without circular fins (CSHE) with counter flow configuration is done to develop a correlation for Nusselt number. The investigation reveals that heat transfer enhancement in FCHE was about 44.12% compared to CSHE with 1% nanofluid concentration. The correlation prevailing the enhancement was developed by considering the influence of curvature ratio, fin ratio and volume concentration (φ) of nanofluid. It was found that this proposed modified correlation could be used for wider range of flow conditions compared with the existing ones within an error range of +20% to -26%.
