Description
Summary:In the present report, the transfer of current and electric field distribution on the outer metallic sheath of the MgB2/Ta/Fe superconducting wires were studied. The variations in the thickness of the superconducting core, barrier and outer metallic sheath affect the current transfer behavior of the MgB2/Ta/Fe superconducting wires. The result shows that, the geometrical combination 50/02/48 is having least CTL value (0.90 mm) while CTL value is maximum (5.49 mm) for 20/30/50 combination. The MgB2/Ta/Fe wire fabricated with thin barrier combination is operational with the lowest electrical dissipation. The study related to the thermal stability of the superconducting wires become easier with the estimation of CTL values. This technique can also be implemented on other superconducting wires to find the proper sheath and barrier materials to design high performance MgB2 superconducting wires.
