Summary:Rapid industrial development uses the catalyst in response to reaction speed in a process. The process uses catalysts in the oil and gas industry is Continuous Catalytic Cracking Platforming, in which the process produces Pt/Al2O3 catalyst waste approximately 2000-3000 kg/year. Recovery of platinum metal is needed to save the cost of purchasing platinum catalysts because platinum is very costly and it is categorized as hazardous and toxic material waste. The method used for platinum recovery is microwave-assisted digestion method. With this method, the Pt/Al2O3 spent catalyst is treated in an isolated, high-temperature, and high-pressure vessel. Platinum metal is one of the precious metals in which it is relatively inactive even to mineral acid. This metal can only be readily dissolved in aqua regia with high-temperature and high-pressure condition. This experiment is used to find out the digestion parameters effect (temperature, solid/liquid ratio, and contact time) and to see if the spent catalyst can be destructed perfectly with its various condition. The highest percentage of platinum recovery achieved is 94.06% with 0.1 gram of spent catalyst used at 220°C. For the kinetic study, surface chemical reaction is the most suitable kinetic model for digestion and has an activation energy value of 13.35 kCal/mol.
