Summary: | The present article considers the prospects for the use of oil-lubricated foil bearings as supports for rotors of centrifugal pumps in petrochemical industry. The advantages of such bearings for this application are described. Using foil bearings allows minimizing the negative influecnce of rotor vibrations, thereby reducing working clearances and increasing a pump's productivity. The authors present an experimental rig and show the advantages of foil elastic-damping bearings over other types of fluid-film bearings. The ability of foil bearings to decrease the amplitude of vibrations is demonstrated by results of experimental research. Such effect is possible due to high damping of foil bearings, where vibration energy is dissipated by friction between various elements of a bearing. |
