Summary: | The design of spacecraft involves the use of meteoroid screen protection to reflect the threat of destruction by high-speed particles in the form of micrometeorites and space debris. The main problem in the design of a protective shield is the optimization of its mass, in order to avoid weighting the design of the spacecraft. High collision speeds (up to tens of km/s) and weight restrictions impose serious requirements in the design of meteoroid protection. Studies of protective screens using metal mesh confirm their higher performance compared to solid screens. In the work, the authors considered several options of mesh protective screens of equal specific gravity and compared their effectiveness and manufacturability using numerical modeling. |
