Description
Summary:The analytically based models and FEM simulation of the ultrasonic guided wave inspection are used to identify signs of internal contamination in pipelines. Numerical simulation has shown that the variation of dispersion curve patterns, conventionally considered a potentially helpful sign, do not manifest in the source-excited wavefields. At the same time, the group velocity curves indicate a significant change of the frequency ranges, in which they are close to zero (ZGV frequencies). The frequency spectra of source-excited guided waves exhibit resonance peaks at these frequencies, which can be detected by laser-based and other modern measurement techniques. Hence, they look promising as reliably detectable indicators of contamination.
