Summary: | DNA methylation of Phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome 10 (PTEN) promoter reported involved in breast tumorigenesis and tumor progression. This present study investigates methylation in PTEN promoters in West Sumatera Breast cancer patients and determines the association of PTEN promoter methylation with some clinicopathological parameters. A total of 36 breast cancer samples were examined, PTEN promoter methylation status was determined with a methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction. Further, this molecular finding that correlated with clinicopathological parameters (stage, metastatic, and age) was analyzed with SPSS software version 17 through Fisher's Test. This study detected PTEN promoter methylation in 19,44%, and 80,56% was detected as unmethylated. PTEN promoter methylation correlates with patients age (P= 0,029), and shown no correlation with carcinoma stage (P=0,63) and metastatic (P= 1,000). Since the sample used in this study were limited, it needs more sample and more complete clinicopathological parameter for more understanding of PTEN methylation in West Sumatera breast cancer patients. |
