A comparative study of the gill morphometry of Coptodon zillii, Leuciscus vorax, Acanthopagrus arabicus from Euphrates river in Iraq

The dimensions of the gills was analyzed in 50 specimens each of Coptodon zillii (Gervais,1848), Leuciscus vorax(Heckel, 1843), Acanthopagrus arabicus(Iwatsuki, 2013) of different body length. The results revealed that increase in body length accompanied by an increase total length of the gill filam...

Description
Summary:The dimensions of the gills was analyzed in 50 specimens each of Coptodon zillii (Gervais,1848), Leuciscus vorax(Heckel, 1843), Acanthopagrus arabicus(Iwatsuki, 2013) of different body length. The results revealed that increase in body length accompanied by an increase total length of the gill filaments, average of secondary lamellae area and the total gill surface area. result showed the total gill respiratory surface area values increased from (8435.74, 8606.48, 8837.25)mm2 in the smallest specimen to (13639.84, 16010.29, 16367.29)mm2 in the largest specimen C.zillii, A. arabicus, and L. vorax respectively .The relationships between gill surface area and body length are statistically significant, the correlation coefficients(r) were a positive and significant (P
