Description
Summary:The development of technology encourages the use of large amounts of energy. This involves renewable energy taken from a nearby energy source where this source has not previously been considered, namely the utilization of wind energy sources taken from the Air Handling Unit (AHU). The challenge in harvesting this energy is to generate electrical energy in low-speed turbines. Research is planned at the production building where AHU machines operate for 24 hours to circulate air in the production room. Because the machine provides the necessary temperature conditions and absolute humidity, the wind energy wastage in the AHU machine is considered significant and continues. The potential energy harvested through AHU suction air is 1,980 Cfm. There are two proposed prototype turbines, a vertical turbine and a horizontal turbine. Research investigations were conducted to determine how much energy can be converted using permanent low-speed generator magnets with both types of turbines. Several designs and modifications were made to fit the AHU tunnel. The results showed promising results. Vertical turbines generate 12Volt DC continuous, direct electricity. Horizontal turbines generate higher direct electricity up to 24Volt DC. Both types of turbine generator sets have successfully supplied 18 Watts of power under loading conditions.
