Summary:Modern trends in the design and growth of the railway network shall take into account the development of technology in both the design and the current maintenance of the railway track. The article examines the movement of rolling stock along the existing curves on one of the sections of the Sverdlovsk railway, where during operation there was a superposition of the transition curve in the plan on the vertical curve in the profile, which does not meet the requirements of the standard. Therefore, the “spatial” curve was formed. Its influence on the rolling stock is analyzed, the forces are studied both in the wheel-rail contact and in the space between the cars. The study provides arguments in favor of removing the restrictions on prohibition of designing combined transition and vertical curves.
