Description
Summary:An analysis of the effect of brush plating time on SCM440-Ni steel on the crystal structure and hardness has been carried out. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of brushplating time on the crystal structure, hardness and elemental composition of SCM440-Ni steel. SCM440-Ni steel brushplating process at a temperature of 30°C, time variations of 30, 60, and 90 seconds with a pressure of 1 atm. Testing of phase transformation and crystal structure using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. Hardness testing using the Vikers Micro scale and chemical composition testing using an Optical Emission Spectrometer. The results of characterization using XRD showed that nickel had been deposited on the surface of the SCM440 steel and several diffraction peaks were formed which indicated the formation of Ni diffraction peaks and the Ni3Fe2 phase with Miller index plane orientations (111), (002), and (022). The optimum diffusion process occurs at 90 seconds and a temperature of 30 C which is indicated by a decrease in grain size, followed by an increase in dislocation density (line defects) and micro-lattice strain. In this case, it affects changes in crystal defects such as grain boundaries, vacancies and dislocations. This results in a change in the lattice strain and crystal size of the nickel coating on SCM440 steel. The results of the hardness test showed that the hardness value increased from the standard SCM440 steel by 336.2HV to 1350 HV from the SCM440-Ni steel with a brush plating time of 90 seconds. The results of the chemical composition test showed that the standard SCM440 steel and SCM440-Ni steel variations in brush plating time of 30 seconds, 60 seconds, and 90 seconds with OES decreased the value of iron elements and increased nickel elements.
