Summary: | The availability of salacca (Salacca zalacca) seedlings is critical for the development of salacca farming in Indonesia. However, restrictions on the number of sucker or lateral buds would impact seedling supply. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of diesel fuel and Benzyl Amino Purine (BAP) on seedling lateral bud growth. From January through October 2018, the study was conducted in Aripan, an experimental site of the Indonesia Tropical Fruit Research Institute (ITFRI). The research was conducted using a Randomized Block Design with seven treatments and five replications using the salacca cultivar Madu as the source material. The experiment demonstrated that removing the spear leaf and dropping 0.1 ml diesel fuel into the stem base was the most effective way to stimulate lateral buds for air layering propagation material. This treatment increased the number of suckers and leaves on suckers to 4.24 and 2.42, respectively. This study is beneficial for seedling propagation using air layering during the seedling phase. |
