Description
Summary:In this preliminary study, we have successfully synthesized Graphene Oxide (GO) by the modified Hummer’s Method which is a simple and effective method for producing GO on a large scale. GO was synthesized by oxidizing graphite with KMnO4, NaNO3, and H2SO4 in an ice bath and mixed with DI water and H2O2. Then, the mixed solution was washed with a solution of HCl, DI Water & ethanol and dried at 80 °C. Graphite and GO were characterized by XRD and FT-IR. The diffraction peak at 2θ = 10.2°-10.5° indicated that graphite had been oxidized to GO. FT-IR spectroscopy showed that GO contains many hydroxyl and carboxyl group. The resulting GO can be used as a graphene precursor in further research in energy storage applications.
