Summary: | The use of biodiesel up to 30% (B30) in various sectors of the diesel engines application as the renewable fuel usage road map has been implemented nationally in Indonesia. The use of biodiesel up to 30% has passed through various tests, both in the laboratory and in the field. A road test was conducted to confirm that there are no harm effects beyond tolerance to the engine due to the utilization of B30 in the long-term operation. The fuel used for the test was made of 70% diesel and 30% B100 with a maximum of 0.55% monoglyceride. The limitation of monoglyceride was decided to anticipate the occurrence of precipitation at low temperature and excessive deposit build-up in the fuel filter that leads to filter blocking. For the first 10,000 km, test vehicles were tested every 2,500 km interval to evaluate engine power, exhaust opacity and fuel filter differential pressure. Then the test was conducted every 10,000 km until the vehicles reach 40,000 km. The filter was changed if the filter differential pressure indicates that the filter blocking about to occur, otherwise it will be changed according to manufacturer standard. The test results show that after 40,000 km, engine power was not decreased and opacity about the same as at the beginning of the road test. There were some test vehicles with a high rate of pressure difference increase at the beginning of the road test. After the first fuel filter replacement, the increase of rate of pressure difference was lower. |
