Summary: | Local duck is one of the poultry commodities that play a role in supporting the development of livestock in Indonesia. These ducks have the opportunity to supply meat and eggs to meet the needs of animal protein from livestock. The problem was the development of local ducks was done traditionally by grazing on agricultural lands, especially rice fields. Based on these problems, a study was conducted that aims to analyze the potential and strategy for developing duck agribusiness in North Sulawesi. The research method used was the survey method. The next study was carried out by collecting published data and the results of previous studies. Data analysis was a potential analysis based on the identification of supporting factors such as population, meat and egg production, and feed availability. The population of ducks increases every year, which was followed by an increase in the production of meat and eggs. This increase was supported by the distinctive taste and texture of duck products. Weaknesses in developing duck farming include low farmer knowledge, sideline farming systems, and lack of technology introduction. The opportunity was a strategic commodity, a source of animal protein, which can be used as a processed product and as a source of income. Meanwhile, the challenge was to compete with other local poultry products and lack capital. In conclusion, local duck agribusiness has potential based on increasing population and production of meat and eggs with aggressive development strategies. |
