Summary: | This paper aims to investigate the most suitable modulation approaches for operating Dual-Active-Bridge (DAB) converters in Extreme Fast Charging (XFC) of Electric Vehicle (EV) applications. The modulation approach has the greatest influence on a DAB converter’s performance. The DAB converter employs a variety of modulation schemes, including phase-shift, trapezoidal, and triangular modulations. MATLAB/Simulink is used to model a comparison between phase-shift and trapezoidal modulation. It is found that phase-shift modulation is simple to implement, easy to control, has a lower (RMS) value of the circuit current, and covers a more extensive load range than trapezoidal modulation, which has a lower output voltage ripple factor, and more soft-switching areas that decrease switching losses. |
