Summary: | Wireless underwater communication refers to the propagation of data using a wireless channel through the water. Underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) gained large attention in the past years owing to its distinguished capability of transferring a high rate of data for longer distances. It can be beneficial in different applications like environment protection, exploration of the seawater, military operations, emergency alarms and so on. However, the underwater field represents a difficult medium to deal with as the channel subjected to scattering and severe absorption. Besides that, the challenge of accurate localization makes the connections improperly adjusted, which in turn affects the signal propagation quality. Recently many innovating techniques of network have been proposed to overcome these difficulties which differ from optical transmission in vacuum. In our review we discussed numerous approaches and achievements in UWOC. |
