Description
Summary:The fundamental need of the Automobile Engineering area is weight reduction with long-term strength. The bumper on two-wheelers aids crashworthiness in the event of an accident. Synthetic fibre reinforced polymers are increasingly used to make them. Synthetic fibres are non-biodegradable and expensive. In this study, the utilisation of a strong, flexible, and readily accessible natural fibre (sisal and coir) as a polymer reinforcement was investigated and designed. Natural fibres such as coconut tinyfibres and sisal long fibres were employed in a crossbreedamalgamation, with fibreweight fractions of 20%, 30%, and 40% cast-off in the composite buit. The conceptual design technique was used to analyse and choose the best of the four product concepts. The light weight composite bumper was manufactured from reinforced, alkali-treated natural fibres in epoxy resin based on the finished design.
