Description
Summary:Soil is the all-important substance covered over the earth surface; it acts as a supporting material for placing the structures over them. The soil must be very firm to take care of loads and forces form the structures, the firmness of the soil will depend upon the density of the soil i.e., when the voids present in the soil are reduced the density of the soil will increase. The voids ratio can be reduced by many methods like mechanical methods and chemical means. In the mechanical method the soil is compacted by ramming or rolling action, so the voids ratio gets reduced and the density gets increased. In case of frictional cohesive soil the compaction property is affected by the granular particles present in the frictional-cohesive soil. Once the soil possess very good firmness, it will be very suitable for placing the structures like foundations, pavements and runways, to increase their serviceability rate. The effective compaction can be done by adding the water content to the soil, it increases the adhesion property to the soil, if the water content increased the soil will act as a liquid and soil particles flocculated loses all its strength, for that reason while compacting the soil the optimum moisture content should be added it states that the at minimum water content the soil possesses very high dry density or maximum bulk density. In this research work, the frictional soil is treated with several industrial ashes with frictional-cohesive soil to improve their density properties. The various percentages of industrial ashes like fly ash, rice husk ash and bagasse ash is added to soil and the compaction test is carried out by using the proctor compaction method, then the optimum moisture content is plotted for the density and water content, from this graph the OMC for the frictional-cohesive soil is comprehend.
