Description
Summary:In this article, the effectiveness of the use of telmisartan in cats with chronic kidney disease in the early stages (stages 1-2) for the correction of proteinuria was considered. The study revealed a positive trend – a decrease in the ratio of protein / creatinine in urine, which confirms the effectiveness of telmisartan in complex therapy. Telmisartan was administered at a dose of 1 mg / kg once a day (every 24 hours) for 12 weeks. In the studied group of cats, a persistent decrease in the concentration of protein in urine was found in 76% of cases. In animals that did not respond to standard therapy, a kidney biopsy is indicated to verify necrotic lesions and prescribe immunosuppressive therapy if necessary. Control of pathological protein excretion in urine is necessary to reduce the risks of active progression of chronic kidney disease, and it is also advisable to use nephroprotective therapy in cats in the early stages of chronic kidney disease to improve kidney function and slow down renal failure.
