Description
Summary:Cancer is a terrible disease that is the world’s second largest cause of death. Despite the amazing research and discoveries of the most recent cancer medicines, the scientific consequences aren’t always positive. The emergence of drug-resistant malignancies necessitates the creation of more effective anticancer medicines. Curcumin, one of the most prominent active components of the Curcuma longa plant, has garnered a lot of attention as an anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and antioxidant agent in recent decades. Curcumin has been revealed to possess excellent anticancer effect, decreasing cancer cell growth and metastasis while also increasing cell cycle arrest or death in a variety of cancer cells. Growth factors, enzymes, transcription factors, kinase, inflammatory cytokines, and proapoptotic (by overexpression) and antiapoptotic (by downregulation) proteins have all been shown to be controlled by curcumin. This polyphenolic molecule, alone or in combination with other medicines, might be a promising cancer treatment. Despite these advantages, curcumin’s therapeutic use in clinical medicine and bioavailability are restricted due to its low absorption and quick metabolism. The basics of cancer, conventional medications are discussed in this review article, along with an updated overview of curcumin, its current advancements, and novel carrier systems.
